Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Have you guys had any issues with helmet clearance with the factory BMW carbon buckets? Thanks. |

With the headrest padding on the OEM seats wearing a helmet is uncomfortable. Thankfully, the padding is removable with two screws holding it. Is the version being sold under Recaro the same? Is the padding removable?
I assume this is what you mean by 'clearance.'

The Sport C and the BMW carbon buckets are essentially the same seat, just different cosmetics: https://www.recaro-automotive.com/us...recaro-sport-c The 5-door heated & non-heated versions are readily available, while the 3-door version is delayed until end of 2024. I do have seatback angle measurements from Recaro for anyone contemplating installing the 5-door version in their M4 for now which is my plan for my M2 if there's enough clearance to still put tires in the backseat. The G82 is quite a bit bigger than the F87, so probably not an issue anyways--just the inconvenience of not having a dump lever for now. |

Well, Recaro says the headrest padding on the Sport C is not removable.
It's such a cool seat and I don't track my M2 as much anymore (I save most of my track for the race cars), so I may still give it a shot. At $3k/seat it's a good alternative to the BMW carbon buckets which I love, but are hard and expensive to find. |

Ordered up the 5-door, heated Sport C. All parts will be at my shop next week, so hopefully will be installed before Thanksgiving.
Will provide some pics, and maybe I’ll put my helmet on and drive around town to check clearance. |

Here it is!
While the seat has less padding than the stock seat, I find it way more comfortable bc it’s so much more supportive. And, the 8-way adjustable electronics allow to fine tune exactly how you’d like the base & back angles, lumbar air pillows, seat height, and leg positioning to dial in perfect fitment. It now feels like the seat is molded to you, vs just sitting on top of a seat. We skipped using the Recaro recommended Planted bracket and used these guys to get the seat much lower and what seems way more secure/connected to the car: https://www.bimmerworld.com/Billet-A...s-E8X-E9X.html We also mounted the seat belt buckle directly to the seat so it would move with it vs remaining stationary on the Planted bracket. Oh, and the heated seat version was very nice to have this weekend during <40F temps. Last edited by ZM2; 12-11-2023 at 08:36 AM.. |

Had a chance to run this seat on track recently. So much better than the OEM OG M2 seats, while being supportive enough to clock a PB at Summit Main (1:19.89) even with my stock 3-point belts.
Also didn't have any helmet clearance issues, and having a heated race seat in the first morning session was just a bonus. Love it! Last edited by ZM2; 05-19-2024 at 04:57 PM.. |
