Allocation Question - Is my dealer being honest?
Question for folks in the know.
Here is the scenario: I was told from my dealer I would be the next allocation to come in. I put a deposit for an M4 G82 back in late December. He contacts me end of January says allocation came in, I should be set for March production. Mid March I still haven't heard anything so i contact him and I am told "Sorry for the confusion, the 3 allocations we got in January were for convertibles, but you are still next in line." Is this how this works? Is my dealer just screwing me around so I don't go somewhere else? I understand all the delays going on now, as it is I am just hoping to get an allocation this next round. I would assume even then I am looking at a May/June build.

no production number = no allocation. they don't want to lose your deposit / sale and are stringing you along. it's definitely possible that they did not get an allocation for a G82 though.
are there other dealers you can put your name down with a refundable deposit? maybe expand your radius a bit.

Dealer allocations are really random and its hard to judge anything. Is this a high volume dealer? Its hard to believe that they got three G83 allocations in a single month. Who knows, they might have.
Adding your name to multiple dealer waitlists improves your chance of getting an allocation as its pure luck. Some wait for months whereas others get them in weeks or by walking into the dealership at the right time. |

Yeah as @MMM.PWR states, he's not being honest. When you get an allocation, you get a production number, and BMW almost immediately accepts the order (status 111), which you can track on the website. If you don't have that, then you're still in the "order bank," waiting for an allocation. I would check with other dealers; the G82 seems to be easier to secure an allocation for.

If your allocation came in January then you would have a production # that day with your build on it. As the others have said, if you have no production # you have no build.
Dealers are given random allocations for random vehicles. They can be adjusted as long as they are within their classification of chassis. For example, a G80 M3 allocation cannot be changed to order a G82 M4. However the G80 M3 allocation can be either a 6MT,Comp or Comp xDrive. I'm not 100% but I believe since the convertible is a G83 M4 (not G82) then it is its own allocation that cannot be changed. Regardless it is hard to believe for the month of Feb/March they didn't get a single G82 allocation.....I would be very hard pressed for them to get you one in a few days for April or just start looking elsewhere. |

When I got my allocation my spec was for a RWD competition. After a couple days I decided to change it to AWD. My production order was moved to 111 for a couple hours and then changed to 112 again. This particular change push me out from week 14 to week 17. I think there are some differences in the chassis for the RWD and RWD but not 100 % sure.
