I am starting to think that the reality of automobile evolution simply does not jive well with sport car enthusiasts.
Design, performance, convenience and economy are directed at the masses, not the relatively small community of sport car enthusiasts.
I think a manufacturer of predominantly sport cars, such as Porsche, has their niche and will continue to evolve with focus on the sport car.
Conversely, it seems BMW is heading in a different direction, focusing on the a larger sector of consumers. This has probably been true all along, however, the 'lines in the sand' are just becoming more apparent.
I suppose the term 'sport car enthusiast' has come to equate with 'traditionalist.'
