If they want to get bombarded with lawsuits, they'll do that.

Just because they built the car doesn't mean they get to control & punish customers because of what we do to it after paying money to purchase it.
If they got crazy they could send OTA updates after the warranty is up to make the car drive like shit and become unreliable to influence people to buy new cars.
