its not an illusion. Its PWM (pulse width modulation) that LEDs use.
they flicker really fast so your eye only sees the average brightness, but cameras will take a frame depending on the frequency the camera is recording at vs the frequency of the pwm.
I think some cameras can correct for this, but it happens with LED bulbs / led backlit TVs too
