100% agree, it's not only about the drive train, you need AWD only for getting started or if you are in a place where 3 of 4 tires don't have traction, otherwise winter tires are perfectly ok to drive 99% of the time and you need winter tires for steering and stopping. Having AWD will not help you to stop on snow or ice.
