Long story short, opened the JB4 case and found that the pin for the black wire in position 25 on the dsub connector wasn't fully clicked into the connector. Minor mistake in the harness assembly by BMS guys, but took me a while to find it because at first I thought the issue was somehow related the the fuel-it ethanol sensor install I did at same time. After seating that pin fully, car started right up and all good after clearing codes.
