Maybe you refer to the observation that nobody goes up to 750hp/1000Nm now with this car. But that's not relevant. Also skoda can have a 1000hp engine when they want these days.

I compare the like for like engines. BMW has always set the bar the competition only recently can level. e.g. the B58, most probably the most iconic BMW engine now, and it's predecessors always defined the standard to beat. Most of BMW engines did and even more back then.
