You can argue for the metric system all you want. I don't really care one way or the other, but celsius specifically is a HORRIBLE unit to measure temperature. The entire range of temperature we experience as humans is a minuscule range in celsius. It's like having a speedometer that goes to 1000 on your corolla. As to OP, we usually crank on the heat for a few weeks in December and January. Fireplace gets us through for the rest of winter. Plus, it's all kinds of romantic with a fire.
