With regards to idrive 8 the big thing we should all be watching for is the i4 interior, to see if they watered down some of the implementation for something closer to a series vehicle. The iX is a flagship technology demonstrator and should be a bit more over the top. I expect to see more hard buttons and more traditional interior layout but with the connected screens.

Even with that interior spy shot showing a watered down version and allowing for more physical buttons I'm definitely not a fan. While I'd likely want all other potential updates the G80 LCI will bring, I'll be more than happy with the one I'm ordering now just to not have that dual screen look.
