As mentioned in that thread, they will update the 3 Series to iDrive 8 with the in LCI 7/2022. It’s not clear yet whether the M3/M4 will also get it then or not until early 2023 when the 4 Series does. Either way it'll be before its LCI, and if these images are correct, it looks like they copied Mercedes who literally just changed their interiors because they sucked (disclaimer - they may or may not have changed it because I think it sucks), and it's beyond awful!

considering the M3 wagon is getting the update i imagine the sedan and coupe will as well.
With regards to idrive 8 the big thing we should all be watching for is the i4 interior, to see if they watered down some of the implementation for something closer to a series vehicle. The iX is a flagship technology demonstrator and should be a bit more over the top. I expect to see more hard buttons and more traditional interior layout but with the connected screens.
