Demand pure and simple. Joe Hamburger just loves huge SUVs. The bigger the better. I wish it wasn't so, but the average American thinks of "soccer mom car" when they hear the word wagon. Be sure BMW would bring these to the US if they thought they could sell them in numbers. I own a 2019 330xi wagon and would upgrade to the M in a heartbeat, but if you look at the US sales numbers for my wagon it's pathetic. There is simply not enough demand.
