I think the limited numbers is a rumour only, from what I have read it will be a permanent member if the line-up, which from a business point of view makes sense as opposed to limit it to 1000 units when they can probably sell a lot more when they finally brought an M3 Touring after teasing us 22 years ago with the E46 M3 Touring concept. 
For your resale value I can understand why a limited run of 1000 units would have been very desirable  |
As i said rumors.
. However i have heard it both from fans and people working at BMW.
My guess is that they run it for a limited period of time til the M5 touring arrives 24/25 since that car will be a Hybrid.
I think it will be tough for BMW to defend the production of the M3 touring with a fossil engine at that time.
And the previous M-Touring were produced under a short period of time.
But that is just my toughts.
