You can also go with a Golf R. AWD + Manual+ practicality of a hatchback. Put the rear seats down and bam, you have a place for the dogs. And it's fun to drive, not too show off-y, somewhat classy little car.
It's no M5 by any stretch of the imagination, but I think it's a relatively good option for you and you get to keep your M2 track car.
