There surprisingly doesn't seem to be any references from BMW to it, outside of the UK where they don't even get the 6MT. My dealership said I definitely should have gotten one, so are going to try and fix it when I do the break-in, but since then I haven't actually heard of a base version getting it, so agree it's probably more likely base doesn't come with it, would just be nice if BMW was a bit clearer about it

My guess is it has to do with the 6NW Wireless Charging option. I think the key needs to be on that to work. With the 6MT the charger is vertical under the armrest. |
You have to have a specific option within the iDrive menu. The 6MTs don't seem to have it, but it is not definitive
