I'm also early 40s and find the G8x to be plenty comfortable for a daily. I use my M4 manual for commuting to the office, shuffling the kids around when my wife and I have to divide and conquer to get everyone where they need to be, and I also use it for fun runs and spirited weekend drives. It's very comfortable.
As another person posted, life does move fast. I remember posting on forums 20+ years ago and you blink and here we are. I want to drive the fun cars now and worry about getting comfortable luxury barges when I'm actually old. 20 years from now I do think we could perhaps call ourselves "old" but not yet!
