Fortunately, due to the fact that the license plate area already splits the grill into upper/lower halves, it will be very easy to do what he says without changing the way air is routed through the front of the car.

This also means that an aftermarket front clip that divides the air between the kidney grill and the lower intake won't require any re-routing of the ducts.

Here's a very quick and dirty MSPaint image I did a few months ago:
The top part makes the grill looks like the current grill on the X5 and 7 series. Too square and big.
