I don't get it.
There has been a litany of bearing problems in M engines over the years. I've had an S65 motor fail in my M3 and an S63 motor fail in my M6. Bearings in both cases. And yet fixes exist, such as aftermarket rod bearings for the E92, so it's not rocket ship science.
My advice to BMW is pretty basic. Figure out if these reoccurring issues are related to BMW Engineering doing a poor job in design/manufacturing specifications and validation, or BMW Purchasing overriding Engineering and going with the cheapest supplier. Then fire the group that's responsible.
It's a bearing for god's sake. Get the spec right and don't cheapen out. It's not worth your reputation.
As for owners, get an extended warranty.
Seriously.
