Like you, I manual shifted 100% of time from 2007-2010 with e90 325i 6 speed auto. The E90 M3 got me out of that habit because the gears are too short with 7 speed dct.
IMO, just leave it on auto mode day to day. Autos are engineered and designed best to be driven automatically.
