I agree. The huge bland cars we've been offered recently are the end-result of making a range of cars from 'lego-bricks' where it's more important to share a bunch of generic parts than to produce individual well-engineered cars. This is always going to produce sub-optimal results. At least with an M-car they tend to replace most of the bodywork, and some of the functional parts.
