Well, let’s see:
  • Winter tires will have more traction on black ice than summer tires.
  • A tow vehicle would probably not be equipped with summer tires, and thus would be better equipped for the conditions than your vehicle.
  • A delivery truck presumably would not be equipped with summer tires, and thus would be more professionally driven to your location than you driving your summer tire-equipped vehicle.

That pretty much covers your questions.

Summer tires in winter lose the vast majority of their traction, whether on dry pavement, in snow, or on black ice.

If nothing else, why drive a performance vehicle, if you throw away almost all of its handling and braking capabilities with a poor and dangerous choice of tires for the conditions?

Tires are what connect the car to the road. Phish even sings a song about this.

“The tires are the things on your car
That make contact with the road
The tires are the things on your car
That make contact with the road
The tires are the things on your car
That make contact with the road
The car is the thing on the road
That takes you back to your abode

“I woke up one morning in November
And I realized I love you
It's not your headlights in front
Your tailpipe, or the skylight above you
It's the way you cling to the road
When the wind tries to shove you
I'd never go driving away
And come back home without you”

Treat yourself, your fellow man, and your car well. Equip it properly.
