+1. Chances are you won't encounter snow/ice in early April, either on your trip or upon your return to Chicago. Just take it easy cornering and braking below 45°F.

Depending on your route there and back, be aware of temperatures in higher elevations in the Carolinas. When we drove our M4 back from PCD two weeks ago, temps were below freezing in the mountains after/before dark .. and still in low 40s midday northwest of Knoxville. Years ago, a friend and I encountered below-freezing temps and heavy frost along the Cherohala in early April on our way to a 1-day Performance Center driving school.
