I've have snow tires for an e39 M5, and a couple of e46 M3s before, and they work, but only to a certain extent. Once the snow gets deep enough, you need AWD and clearance to really get around. I've got snows for my e91 (she's a manual, too), and good all seasons for my x3, so I'm set. The challenge with using a low clearance vehicle for DD duties is that there are times when the parking lots and neighborhood exits turn to big, chunky ice, and that's where you really want the higher clearance. Snow tires will get you traction on it no problem, even in a high horsepower RWD sled, but that ice can take off body trim. Ask me how I know.

All that being said, there's a good chance I'll buy a set of winters for the G80, as I won't want to be out of the seat for so long. I mean, what's another 2k when you're already in it for 80? lol.
