"Doesn't have permanent AWD" just could mean that "you can turn it off" or "rear power could be sent 100% to the back if necessary"

Your document is also for a G12, I don't think they're the same suspension.

It doesn't make sense that it's not default fully engaged since we have a specific "4WD" mode that's default and that you have to *specifically* disable DSC to allow full 2WD mode.
