Leases during inflationary times also get more expensive. The residuals rarely increase at the same rate as capitalized cost. So the lessee winds up paying more for the amount leased.

This scenario is never perfect.

One of my previous US East Coast "how to make moon crater size pot holes be irrelevant" cars some time ago was Toyota 4Runner. It would still be on the road if I hadn't sold it to a 4Runner enthusiast.
