BMW definitely engineers a certain 'feel' into their manuals. I've never had an issue with it, however. It is often described as 'springy' and 'notchy'.
This is true. It is also light, fast and effective.
I grew up with hondas, so I get the complaints. I have a GT3 with what I feel is an ideal tranny. I also have a Golf R, which is springy/light and also very vague. Great for communting, but no feedback at all. I also had the R8 Manual, and that was REALLY notchy. (haha, it is a gated tranny!) But why can't the M3 have the GT3 shifter?? I dunno. The 6-speed in that car is like a steroid laden Miata's tranny. It's perfect. That being said, I think I might miss the BMW feel in a BMW.
Also, all of my BMW trannys needed about 5K miles to break in.....
