Another perhaps even simpler solution would be to black out parts of the lower portion of the bumper to make the lower part of the grill look like a more conventional intake. In fact, once pictures of the production car are available, I'll bet we see people create some mockups of different ideas.

In any case, we're not talking about a difficult modification. Its really just changing the shape and appearance of a hole in the front of the car. Like I say, if there is demand, the aftermarket will address it.
Yes, and mesh would probably have less restrictions then perforated surface.

People like us will most likely modify if they don't like it.

I personally modified almost every car I owned and it makes the car transform tremendously.

Can't wait to see final results
