Drivetrain notwithstanding, still a shitty design if it can't launch without destroying first gear.
Could also be gearing is the reason to launch in 2nd, I'm just guessing. The car wasn't built for 0-60 primarily.

The M5 CS launches in 1st. So does the M3 xdrive. The rear M3 and M4 launch in 2nd.

Maybe if it launched in 1st, it would just shread its rear tires to dust? But if you are buying an M4 CSL to drag race it, probably missing the point of the car, the M3 CS is coming next year.
