Actually, I'd be extremely surprised if we ever see i5 M on the back of a BMW. That model designation would mean nothing to no one. I think we'd probably see a M5i.

With BMW of the past I'd 100% agree, but with BMW of today willy nilly throwing out traditions out the window like they are worthless, i wouldn't be so sure...

While we Bimmer faithful care very much about what powers these cars, the normal, traditional customer does not.
Therefore, once the need to advertise that your "saving the planet" by driving one of these is gone, automakers will just revert to normal names. So while This generation might be M5i, the next will just be battery powered and thus be M5 only.
