I have lived through all the M3 introductions, and they have all been received with awe and admiration, every single one. A slight disappointment over the E36 standard fenders, but that was all forgotten when the juicy E46 body came around. Then the E92 came, a great looker as well, and that awesome DKG.
To be honest - I feel it as a personal insult that this car bears the M3 badge.

As much as people complain about it, there are many more who love the new design and will bring in many new first time owners to the brand. The M3/4 is not a pure sports car anymore, and that is by design. The new M2 will fill that slot in BMW's lineup.
In my mind, the M3 is the new M5. And for that, I welcome it. I can't wait to get in it and have it complement my M2C. |
Let's see if the new buyers > current M3 buyers. I think not but time will tell.
