To me the more revealing part of that press release is that the M3/M4 were not mentioned in the list of M vehicles arriving in dealerships 2020, which confirms they will not be available to drive home until 2021:

It sounds similar to the F8X. It was revealed in August 2013 as a concept that looked exactly as the production car and then started showing up at auto shows the coming months. I went to Vancouver BC to see them in January or February 2014 and put my order in March 2014 for a July delivery at the Welt which was from my dealers first allocation.
