No reason to think alcantara won't hold up. It may wear but it won't "rip" under normal use.
Alcantara, speaking from my old days as an Audi guy, is better in the summer as it doesn't get as hot as regular leather AND better in the winter because it doesn't feel as cold as regular leather.
