Yes, that’s exactly right. In fact, the entire fourth paragraph of the press release is dedicated to the M340i, M440i, M340d, and M440d.

They formerly used the branding “M Performance Vehicles” for this group of products, but that was abandoned some time ago.

It’s true that the numbers are apples-to-apples in that respect. Still, it’s worth remembering that the transformation has taken place over years, and new models have transitioned into the M portfolio each year with the addition of the “M” to their model designation. This has likely been the biggest contributor to M sales growth. This year will finally complete the process with the G26 M440i and M440d Gran Coupe models replacing the outgoing F36 440i and 435d models.

Of course, the lineup will still continue to grow with the addition of brand new models such as the electric i4 M50, and next year, new hybrid M*45e/M*50e models.
