So I had a chat with my friends at BMW, with one of the replying to my comments regarding XM ("it is an abomination", I said) that "he was expecting when I share my reaction and he was 100% sure it will be exactly like this". So at least BMW knows customer likes and expectations, that is good. Wonder when the design team will catch up.
On the bright side, I was told that black production car will be sick and the overall impression is expected to be like with M4: at the begining, everyone was trashing it, but after seeing in person in the proper color combination, it is expected that customer will fall in love with it. We'll see how it goes.
The other news is that there is a lot of shared elements with the new 7 series, i.e. the front (don't worry, 7 series grill will be larger). The good news here is that the 7 series looks way better. But still holds a lot of this new, futuristic design language.
