Let me explain. On my F80, it took me 3 months to reach the 1,200 miles service (I work from home). On my G80, I am trending the same way, it may take me 3 months to put 1,200 miles on the car.

The regular service interval is 10K miles or 1 year, whatever is first. On my F80, because I had done the break-in service at 3 months, my next service interval - according to the Service Advisor, was due 12 months after the break-in service, which does not make any sense to me.

My expectation is that they should do the 1,200 miles break-in service, without re-setting the regular oil service interval.

Please let me know of your personal experiences.
I am a bmw tech, the oil change interval should not be reset. The 1200 mile service should be reset through the ISTA program and that is all. If the oil service is also reset, the service counter also goes up which is the number of oil changes done on the car. This is a number read out through the key and determines what is due with the next oil change. Most M cars get spark plugs on the third oil change and resetting the counter at the 1200 mile service would cause the plugs to be due at 20,000 miles/2nd oil change and not 30,000 miles/third oil change.
