This is NOT my experience at all. Our dealer did very minor damage to the tailgate on our prior x3. The repair work was done in their own body shop and it hit our carfax as an accident repair.
Unless you buy the parts, have them painted off the car, install them yourself AND pay cash, expect a carfax hit.

I'm not sure if this was a result of the inflated prices or just a policy they had in place for some time. Thankfully it's not something we've had to deal with on more than one occasion.
