I might be oversimplifying but I can't imagine it is a large amount of unique engineering... they have the benchmarks from the G80 so I would guess 2 major tracks of work.
-structural bracing to achieve same stiffness targets as M3 sedan, some of this is probably plug and play from the sedan program
-suspension rebalance to account for the different weight distro and load capacity of the wagon
