If you make millions of cheap cars, paying through the nose for the chips that are available is an issue. if you make a smaller number of premium cars it is less of an issue.
Also BMW took out some features reliant on those chips.
Sometimes I have to remind myself that that high volume G-20s and G-30s are still good looking and desirable, because I can only picture the incredibly ugly M3/4 and the cartoonish front end styling on the 7 and some SUVs can't be driving sales.
