They tried their best this time around by adding aluminum hood, fenders, control arms and a few other suspension parts standard but there is only so much they could do, without resorting to more exotic materials i.e. costly; such as a carbon fiber core like on the i3 & 7 Series, retain all required modern day safety equipment, before the price tag becomes astronomical and out of the reach of their target demographics.
Keep in mind to that this vehicle model's MSRP is suppose to hover around 38 - 55k, it's been like this since "E" generation. However, adjusted for inflation, $50,000 in 2008 is considered 63k today. Manufacturers have the daunting task of keeping up with drop value of the money and yet still maintain an MSRP under 50k.
There is always a rhyme behind the reason, so, I always give it a little thought before I immediately lean towards a negative assumption.
