BMW Dealer confirmed this for me today "We have heard back from product development who have sent out a bulletin confirming this. There is currently a worldwide shortage of semi-conductors (silicone chips) which is rapidly impacting many industries including automotive. As a temporary measure BMW have removed extended smartphone connectivity including wireless charging as standard specification across a majority of BMW models including new G80 and G82 M3 and M4. This also means the removal of BMW Digital Key. This restriction commences from July 2021 production and is ongoing until further notice."
