Tbh I would prefer a hard top all day long! According to other sources insurance companies been complaining in a accident with top down in the trunk. Most cars got totalled because of the repair costs.

The F83 was more than 500lbs heavier than the F82... that's more than a couple pounds... I had a 430 hardtop rental for a couple of days not too long ago, sure it was no M, but it was a dog compared to it's sedan and coupe counterparts I've driven before as loaners. The rag top is estimated to be about 200lbs lighter, so still a bit of weight, but a good percentage of that weight is in the motor and other static components vs in the roof.
Aside from that straight-line performance loss due to weight, the difference of center of gravity in general, let alone the change for dealing with top-up vs top-down, is hard to overcome for any chassis.
