I have now tested the M3 xdrive with Michelin Alpin 5s on slippery snow covered Minnesota roads. It can for sure be an all year every day car. Not great clearance but great traction. I did put it in rear wheel only and that did not work except for 30 seconds of Cheerios. I was worried the width of the tires would make it skate but the Michelins are crazy good. So if in doubt xdrive with winter wheels.
