Kind of surprising it took this long for them to revive it but perhaps there's no better occasion for its revival than M GmbH's Golden Jubilee.
The Motorsport Roundel, if properly implemented, would look great paired with a nice clean steering wheel and M style wheels.
As mentioned above, since the 60th Anniversary will most certainly be all-electric, let's hope that M's 50th Anniversary in 2022 will see a celebration & proper send-off of the kind of stuff that built the brand (i.e., internal combustion).
See my post of November 2020 pointing out G87 M2 test mules featuring a peculiar camo plaque hiding the Hofmeister kink area: in principle, there is room for hosting the updated BMW Motorsport roundel or the 'regular' BMW roundel:

Interesting that the C-pillar is camouflaged: is BMW M toying with the Hofmeister kink or considering the idea to affix a BMW logo (as on the BMW 3.0 CSL and 3.0 CS and CSL Hommage) ?

Recently the X2 also got this feature as a change for the sake of change ("For true distinction, the BMW emblem has been repositioned next to the Hofmeister kink on the C pillar. Just another case of breaking the rules.").

Just remember that it is scheduled to go into production in December 2022. Still a long road ahead to a final version.
