While weight is a bad thing for the track enthusiast for lap after lap competition, on a street setting for 95% of the consumers, it is not an issue. BMW has a way of hiding the weight on its newest cars for every day consumer use. With adaptive suspension, and tuning, these heavy cars can actually pull over .90 lateral gs, while having a nice luxurious ride also. Realistically in a head-on collision the lighter car is usually at a disadvantage. Hence, many trucks do poorly in fixed barrier crashes, but quite well in accidents with lighter cars.
