As others have pointed out, the anti-stall and hill hold features make modern manuals pretty damn easy to drive.
I have tested this on a hill. Clutch in, car doesn't roll back, no gas, slowly let out clutch.
Car takes off smoothly.
Auto-rev matching is annoying when you can't turn it off, but it also makes driving a manual easy. That said, get what you want. A car is a lot of money and if you think you'd be happier with an auto, go for the auto. Who cares what anyone else says, it's your car, not theirs.
