I suspect in practicality the oil cooler is sufficiently protected. I know some people had the engine oil system damaged on the F8X and complained about fragile design. However I bottomed out my F80 on several occasions also hit a few nasty pieces of debris traveling underneath (including a bouncing manhole cover that a Lexus LC sucked up right of the ground in front of me) where I was sure damage occurred based on impact and noises. I took it in to the dealer each time for inspection of undercarriage and suspension geometry + wheel alignment. Same thing each time “some sctratches but no functional damage”. The F80 is my least favorite M car I owned and 2nd least favorite BMW I’ve owned but damn it’s robust.
