I wouldn't be surprised if they make less than 1000. Not necessary cause there isn't demand (though there might not be global), but there were logistics concerns around the fixed buckets and there is still some part shortages. Jaguar made less than 300 Project 8s (though they still said they did) and Alfa sold out all 500 GTAm's and then returned some deposits. The math doesn't add up to 1000 and I don't see more cars appearing in the US to make the numbers work.
You may be right. BMW may just offer the customers who are still waiting who have ordered fixed bucket seats the adjustable seats and say take it or leave it. They did that to me when I ordered the first i8's back in the day.
