I think the exhaust sound is defined by the market as in they have fewer limitations in the US than they do in Europe. I am not sure how it is in Australia.
As for the looks, I don't think anyone would have an issue with a flashier look if it was done right. Right now it looks like an angry beaver showing his oversized teeth.
