The difference is a failure which is covered by BMW and a failure that sets you back big time financially.
Just because these tuner shops max out their shop car doesn't mean everyone should be doing the same. If they blow an engine, it's a business expense and they can get it back on the road in a matter of days or weeks.
In addition, that shop car likely made multiples in terms of return on investment for what they paid for the car and the mods they put on it. The clout is meant to get people to buy their products while us mortals have a depreciating asset that we are gambling with.
