Even these in-car air fresheners make me sick. I am thinking that later on I can add a secondary cat delete pipe to test for a smell which would be a lot less expensive than buying a whole new mid-pipe if I sensed a smell.

It's the primary cats that eliminate the smell, there's no smell at all when you ditch the secondary cats.
